This week, we learned about digital object identifier. A DOI provides content and provides a source to its online location. In such a way, it is commonly applied in academic publishing to make sure that articles, datasets, and other research outputs are easily found, accessed, and cited for many years to come, even when the URL has changed. It minimizes problems of "dead links" associated with standard URLs.

On the other hand, we had a field trip to SAADS. SAADS is a hospice center near our school that appears to be a "retreat" as a log cabin. Our volunteer cordinater, Sydnie Holliman, taught us about the history of the building and then all the things the vice presient, Philip, wanted to ensure would remain. For example, in the south wing, the right side is named oak while the left is pine. In the north wing, there is cherry and magnolia. Each of these four names come from the trees used to build the retreat.
