On Tuesday our Biomed class took a field trip to Life South, the program that did our blood drive, and got through each step that happens after blood drives.
To start off with we watched several "regulars" sit in comfortable chairs while their arm that is getting blood taken sits on a pillow.
then we headed into the room where they talk about how "screening" works and how they determine your blood type after getting your finger pricked.
after that we when into the back and watched how the label, filter, and swish them. after that platelets get into a thingy that constantly is rocking them while the blood sits in a container.
At the end we watch them packages blood into boxes with packs of ice.
