Teens and E-Cigarettes (1/9/23)

Updated: Jan 10, 2023

With Mr. Jones from the Mobile County Health Department on January 9, 2023.

With the short time spent with Mr. Jones, his amazing speaking skills and personality were apparent. He knows how to connect to the youth and get the point across while also providing humor and relief to the tough subject he is discussing.

"If you like yourself, slow down and give yourself a second to make the decision."

Mr. Jones begins the class with the question, "Are you real or are you fake?" In reality, we see the youth making many decisions they know are wrong but continue to do it.

The CEO representing the production of E-Cigarettes, William Campbell, states to the court, "they are not addictive" which we now know is false and the man blatantly lied in order to market his product. He believes it can be for anyone poor, stupid, or young; not caring about the safe age and targeting high school kids but focusing on the audience that will better benefit him.

- 90% start tobacco use at the age of 18

- 98% start at the age of 26

Many gas stations will advertise these types of products by setting them up near other candies or wrapping them in colorful packaging and promoting their "fruity flavors" and easy access. E-Cigs are devices thats purpose is to deliver nicotine to the body. Nicotine is a drug, stimulant, highly addictive, causes changes in brain chemistry, and also found in tobacco products.
