Physician Assistant Studies Program (2/3)

Mrs. McGilvray visited our class to discuss her profession and how she got there. She has spent 23 years as a PA at South. She got her undergraduate degree as an athletic trainer and then worked in Health South. When she went back to PA school, she got into Emery and attended there.


She scrubbed into the operating room, 3 days a week, for seven years. Five years ago, she moved to Mobile and now runs the PA program.


The USA program started in 1996 and includes PA faculty who have worked in a variety of clinical settings, served in military, are leaders in national organization and some who have graduated from USA.


- Degree earned: Master of Health Science

- Length of Program: 27 months


For the first year, you will spending time in class lectures and the anatomy lab, learning about medicine.

Minimum Requirements:

- any major

- GPA: 3.0 = overall, science and last 60-hour GPA (includes graduate level work)

- 100 patient care hours

- GRE: 145 verbal, 145 quantitative, analytical writing/one test date and 5 yr max

- prerequisite coursework
