Doctor Thomas is an athletic trainer and helps run a program at the University of Mobile.
Our teacher, Mr. Bentley, used to be Miss Thomas's boss and helped her athletic training. She states that their training was mainly trial by error which gave them more experience than book knowledge. Since 2004, they have now balanced out the education and experience in their training. It is a two year program with sixty-two credits.
Learning signs and symptoms is a large part of the career. They must come up with a plan of action based on what they assume is wrong with the patient either on the field or whatever they may be. Athletic trainers will practice these plans and adjust it depending on the medical staff present.
On an average NFL game day, there will be at least twenty-seven staff members present. There will be four athletic trainers on both the home team and the visiting team then one that serves both teams as an independent trainer.
